Training cuts across all the activities of the organization, and some topics covered include:
- HIV/AIDS behavior change (BCC)
- Group therapy & counseling theories
- Bee keeping management
- Honey & uses of honey products
- Cookery using honey recipes
- Home based care for AIDS patients
- Nutrition & HIV/AIDS
Income Generating
K-PEN initiated the bee keeping project to help women infected and affected by HIV/ AIDS to earn a decent living and improve income through producing and selling honey and as a source of nutrients when eaten with other foods. This project was started in 2002 with ten households, and today the number has risen to cover fifty households with an average of 2-4 bee hives per house hold, technically ensuring improvement in household incomes and quality of lives for the targeted women in Ndhiwa Division, Homa Bay District of Nyanza Province, an area that has historically been at the centre of HIV epidemic in Kenya.
Psychological support
KPEN recognizes the role of counselling in enabling those affected by HIV/AIDS to cope. In this instance, KPEN has in place a pool of qualified counsellors supporting women and young girls living with and affected by HIV/AIDS to cope. This service delivery area currently caters for about 500 women and 200 young girls. As KPEN continues serving the disadvantaged members of the community in Ndhiwa Division, the demand for the counselling services continue to rise, hence the need to ensure it is available and enhanced.
